Were you a fan of “The Brady Bunch” growing up?

I definitely watched the show although I was just a little bit past that “watch it all the time” age when "The Brady Bunch" hit. I thought Marcia was cute.

If not, when you got the part did you go back and watch episodes to prepare?

Once I got the part I didn’t go back and watch specific episodes in preparation for my role. I may have watched an episode just to familiarize myself with everyone again. By this point, "The Brady Bunch" was so much a part of our culture that I had a pretty good sense of the show. Also, we weren’t “re-doing” the Brady Bunch. Our show was an older version with the kids grown up so there was only so much to gain from watching the old episodes.

Did you feel intimidated or pressure when you joined the show, knowing what an iconic family it was?

I think I felt the pressure when I first auditioned and then when I screen tested with Maureen. At that point it was all still up in the air and that’s the time when you feel that it all could crumble away with one false step.

How was your experience filming and interacting with the cast on all the different projects you were associated with? Any special moments behind the scenes that you can recall?

I had been acting for quite a while when I got the part of Wally on "The Brady Girls Get Married," so stepping into a situation where there was an existing cast was not foreign to me. Actually, they were all reuniting as well, so there were “feelings” going around with everyone. That being said, everyone was incredibly gracious and welcoming. I felt like part of the group very early on. No cliques. It was fun hearing their stories as they reminisced about shooting the show when they were kids. A moment that sticks out in my mind was when we were shooting a scene with the whole family in the living room. I was standing there, in the Brady living room with all the kids and Mike and Carol and Alice and that horse underneath the staircase. I knew the show and this make believe Brady family well from when I watched it on television when I was younger but now, here I was standing in that same LIVING ROOM with all those same people. I felt like I had been sucked into my TV.

How different was it working with Leah Ayres as Marcia during The Bradys?

First of all, Leah is a wonderful actress and the consummate professional so working together was a total pleasure. I thought she did a fine job in a really, really difficult situation. It takes a lot of confidence to step into a role that wasn’t just “played” by someone else but that someone else “was” that character. Both Maureen and Leah were lovely to work with.

Looking back on the almost 40 years since you have been a part of the extended Brady family, what impact has it had on your career being a part of the Brady history?

I was fortunate that I came into the show later on in its existence. The show didn’t tag me and type me the way it did the rest of the cast. They ARE the Bradys. I simply married one of the Bradys. Now I must admit it’s really cool being the guy that got to marry Marcia Brady. I love that I’m him. You know, people have a true affection for that show and all the characters. Being a part of that family has allowed me to share in the public’s affection for it. I know this may sound terribly corny but I feel privileged to be a part of this. I mean, come on, I not only married Marcia. . . I got to kiss her!!! How cool is THAT.

Your thoughts on why the world has such a love of “The Brady Bunch”.

I think the show represents how we all wish the world could be. As times get tougher and tougher the world of the Brady Bunch seems further and further away and unfortunately less and less realistic to what is still possible. Nevertheless, the love, the values, the family and the commitment to one another offers a nostalgic and loving look back and maybe even a hopeful look at what could be again.

Your thoughts on the latest Brady project: HGTV’s “Very Brady Renovation”. What has your involvement been with this Project?

I think the renovation of that house was a brilliant idea. I’m not sure what they’re going to do with it now, but what fun. I actually grew up about two blocks from that house. It was no big deal back in those days. While they were shooting the renovation show I had the chance to drop by and surprise Maureen and Chris while they were working on a piece of furniture for the house. That was great fun, not only to see the two of them again (it had been a while) but also to hang out and joke around. I also got to peek inside the house which was totally cool.

Lastly, what are you currently doing professionally?

As of late I haven’t been acting that much. I transitioned into Voiceover work a number of years ago and have really been enjoying my career in that field. I also produce radio advertising quite a bit and in the last few years started teaching and coaching VO. I’ve always loved that and it’s great that I now have the time to do it. I feel incredibly fortunate and grateful to say that things are good right now. My kids are doing well. My wife is her amazing and lovely self and I am thankful and humbled by each new day. There I go sounding corny and like a Brady again.
